The Salvation Army of Fredericksburg has received a $5,000 grant from Youth in Philanthropy (YIP), a student group that is part of the Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region.
The Salvation Army submitted a grant asking for support for the After School Music & Arts Program. The money will be used to purchase new instruments to meet the increase in the number of students.
YIP consists of more than 40 young people in 10th - 12th grades from the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline.
Each grant cycle involves young people practicing leadership, solving problems, studying proposals, managing budgets, working together and presenting views to an audience of peers and adults.
YIP aspires to teach youth the importance of giving and serving; encourage youth involvement in philanthropy; and provide ways for young people to take action on issues that are important to them.
The Salvation Army is honored and thrilled to receive this grant. Thank you, Youth in Philanthropy!
