World AIDS Day Observance in Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg Area HIV/AIDS Support Services (FAHASS) will observe World AIDS Day on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.
You are probably aware that World AIDS Day is actually observed on December 1 each year. However, that is the same day as the Fredericksburg Christmas Parade. December 2 is also the first Sunday of Advent.
So this year, we are planning to observe the day in a different way. We will host an awareness walk downtown in the early afternoon, which will culminate with a short memorial service and a bell ringing in memory of those who have passed due to this horrible disease.
The short walk will begin at 1 p.m. and will cover about 7/10th of a mile. We will gather at Sophia and Hanover Streets and walk to Market Square, following the route shown on the attached map.
It is our hope that members of the churches in town with Sunday services would join us after worship, and that the congregations of faiths that worship on Friday, Saturday or other days would also participate.
We invite people to join us at any point of the walk or for the memorial service. It would be great if participants could wear red, but we will have red HIV/AIDS awareness ribbons available as well.
