ABC Stores Opening Sundays Starting July 1
Locals can get their drink on Sundays now with a new law that allows ABC stores to open on Sundays across the state where local ordinances do not prohibit it.

ABC stores in the Fredericksburg area will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays starting July 1.
The Virginia General Assembly this past session approved a law that allowed the remaining 206 ABC stores that hadn't already been allowed to open on Sundays to begin doing so on July 1.
The only stores that won't be able to open are those in localities that have local ordinances prohibiting Sunday sales of alcohol. Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties do not have such local ordinances.

LIZ!! is this your first comment on the site? Here's the scoop from my perspective: I don't drink a lot. So I don't have a few gallons of booze. There have been days when I have friends over or something is happening on a Sunday and I wish I had a little bit of vodka or something and I can't get anything but beet. Well, I don't want beer and wine all the time and I can't drink beer much. So, for someone who doesn't get alcohol regularly, having a time Sunday to get it, which usually is a day I can find some time off, I like the idea of being able to do it. I've always thought blue laws were odd. What other product is regulated in regard to time and day of the week when it can be sold? Glad to see these vestigial parts of Virginia's code are getting updated.
