Update July 25, 2:32 p.m.:

Police are investigating a death in a homeless camp as a homicide.

“Due to obvious signs of trauma to the body, the case is being investigated as a homicide.  The victim, a Hispanic male in his 40’s, was known to reside in and around the Bragg Hill corridor since 2008,” said Fredericksburg Police Department public information officer Natalia Blesdoe. “It is unknown how long the victim has been homeless. Police have identified the victim, but his name will not be released until efforts have been made to contact the next of kin.”

According to Blesdoe, Fredericksburg Police Department received a 911 call at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday morning from a caller who stated that a man located in a homeless camp behind the Central Park Townhomes appeared to be dead.

At this time, a suspect has not been identified, Blesdoe said. Anyone with information about this case should contact Detective Patrick Lamb at 540-654-5740. Blesdoe said callers should feel confident that Detective Lamb, who is fluent in Spanish, is concerned only with solving this homicide, and the residency status of any individuals who wish to provide information is irrelevant and will not be questioned.
