The Fredericksburg Jaycees 26th annual Christmas Parade begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.  This year's theme is "Once Upon A Christmas."

The parade begins at the corner of Caroline and Charlotte Streets and proceeds to Amelia Street, where it turns left. The parade turns left again onto Princess Anne Street and ends at the intersection with Wolfe Street. It is expected to last about two hours.

The judges’ stand will be located in front of the Circuit Court Building. Trophies for first place will be awarded to entries in each of the following categories:

1. Commercial Floats
2. Novelty Bands
3. Majorettes (Senior)
4. Majorettes (Junior)
5. Dance/Gymnastics
6. Equestrian

Parking is prohibited on the parade route streets beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the City of Fredericksburg Police Department. Police will begin removing parked vehicles at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. 

Public parking will be allowed in the Sophia Street Parking Garage at the corner of Sophia and Wolfe Streets, and in the other parking lots along Sophia Street. However, after 4 p.m. the only way to access these lots will be from Lafayette Boulevard.

Beginning at 4 p.m., Sophia Street will be blocked to vehicular traffic coming from the direction of William Street, and City Dock will be reserved for parade staging and will not be available to the public.

On-street parking is available outside of the parade route area, but visitors are encouraged to pay attention to signs denoting parking restrictions, said the police. Visitors should not park in private lots and should be careful not to block driveways or alleys. Towing will be enforced.

Drivers who do not intend to go downtown during the parade should detour around the area by using Route 1 or the Blue/Grey Parkway, according to the police.
