Giant Food Stores Now Fill Pet Prescriptions
The purchase of pet prescriptions count toward customers' Giant gas rewards points.
Pet owners can now pick up their personal prescriptions and those for their cats and dogs at Giant Food Store pharmacies.
Giant entered into a partnership with the pet pharmacy PetCareRx to help meet the prescription needs of the pet owners who visit the grocer, according to a press release issued this month by Landover-based Giant.
The company said 60 percent of its patrons own at least one cat or dog.
“Giant is excited to offer even more convenience for our shoppers who are also pet owners,” said Joel Neaman, regional manager of Giant pharmacy. “We’re looking forward to a successful partnership with PetCareRx to support our customers who are also pet owners.”
Forty percent of veterinarian prescriptions can already be filled at Giant pharmacies, company officials said. Giant now offers three of the most popular pet prescription items that were previously available only from veterinarians and online vet pharmacy providers, according to the release.
These include Heartgard Plus, Rimadyl and Frontline Plus.
For prescriptions that can't be filled in the store, Giant pharmacists can make arrangements with PetCareRX to ship the drug to the owner's home within two to three days, according to the release.
The purchase of prescriptions also count toward Gas Rewards points.
