Drew Carey Stresses Importance of Fitness in Fredericksburg
Carey: "Fitness has helped me regain my youth."
The 2011 Healthy Lifestyle Expo opened at 4 p.m. today, and featured such speakers as City of Fredericksburg Major Tom Tomzak and comedian Drew Carey. As part of historic half weekend, the Expo featured various attractions promoting health and wellness.
Opening ceremonies included guest speakers, presentation of the color guard and rendition of our national anthem, and finally door prize presentations to the first five runners in line.
Carey played his familiar role of host as the "contestants" competed in a series of "The Prize is Right" style competitions. After the Expo was officially opened to the public, Carey made himself available for autograph and photo opportunities.
Later, inside the Expo, Carey opened up about his recent weight loss and commitment to fitness.
"Fitness is such an individual decision," said Carey. "I like my life a lot better the way I'm living it now. I really enjoy being fit. If I can serve as an example to somebody, then good."
Carey also announced that he will be participating in the Marine Corps Marathon in October, and will use the historic half as his main training tool.
When asked what his goals are for the actual running, Carey replied, "I want to run in under ten minutes per mile; I think after I get past hospital hill, I'll turn it on and really see what I can do."
The race starts off at 7:00 a.m., Sunday morning.
