Dear Patch,

Your article should read, Properties on the Market near Fredericksburg. None of these properties are actually in the city. The zip codes are for the two counties surrounding Fredericksburg. I know it is confusing for people who live here or are planning to move to the area. In fact the city only has one zip code (22401). A rule of thumb is wherever you pay your taxes and water bill is the county you live. Thank you anyways for the headsup on the home sales, I'm sure there this will be helpful for some looking to purchase in the near future.

Cynthia, I am aware of ZIP Codes, but the addresses are Fredericksburg. We'll change the headline for the next one. Thanks for the input. 22408 is in fact Spotsy.

My daughter lives in 22408 and her address is Fredericksburg. It's not just the city that is considered Fredericksburg. You could get technical and put, 'but not the county of Spotsylvania!' LOL

For headline purposes, we will keep it like it is. I remember covering the issue when Spotsylvania County wanted to change its ZIP code addresses from Fredericksburg to some other names, but the process is LONG and expensive so they ditched it. Plus it was confusing

I live in 22408, Spotsylvania County, but my address and I consider the area Fredericksburg. It's less than a mile.

The Patch policy is correct for this one. There are political jurisdictions (city, county) and there are USPS addresses. The USPS addresses use Fredericksburg for much of Spotsylvania and part of Stafford Counties. Whether or not it is "correct" to use Fredericksburg to reference these properties depends on the context. Since most normal people would use an address to find a house they want to buy, if you told them Spotsylvania, or Stafford, they would actually not be able to find the house if they used an on-line map or a GPS to search for it.
