Library Rally to Protest Bush Tax Cuts

Organizers critical of Rep. Wittman's support of GOP budget.

Marking the tenth anniversary of tax cuts signed into law by President George W. Bush, members and supporters of Virginia Organizing will hold a rally tomorrow to call on lawmakers to repeal the $1.5 million tax cuts. It is one of several events being held around the country by Democratic leaning political organizations protesting cuts to social welfare programs.

The event begins at noon on Tuesday, June 7 in front of the Central Rappahannock Library on Caroline Street. Participants will be able to flush mock-money down a toilet, which organizers say represents resources which went to the rich instead of to schools and government programs under the Bush tax code. Organizers plan to critically highlight Rep. Rob Wittman's (R-Va.) support of Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) GOP budget, which includes controversial changes to Medicare.

Organizers say that the tax cuts have failed to generate jobs or prosperity.

“Enough is enough,” said Sandra Cook, Chairperson of Virginia Organizing in a press release promoting the rally. “Our economy is in tatters and the middle class is disappearing. Yet some in Congress are at it again. They want to give even larger tax cuts to corporations and the super-rich while slashing essential services, environmental protections and attacking public employees."

Virginia Organizing is a statewide advocacy group which traditionally supports Democratic political and social justice issues. They have recently organized a local forum promoting the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and a small immigration rights protest on the campus of the University of Mary Washington.

Sounds like the best time for the socialists to rally for increasing taxes is when everyone paying taxes is working. Get a life and stop trying to suck off the rest of us.

Let's have the almost 50% who do not pay any taxes begin to do so.
