Live Updates: City of Fredericksburg Heads to the Polls
Residents are voting Tuesday for president, senate, house and school board candidates and two proposed Virginia Constitutional amendments.
Update 4:30 p.m.
Several voters at Precinct 402 at VFW Post 3103 received provisional ballots on Tuesday. The voters reported changing their address at the Fredericksburg DMV Customer Service Center, but say they never received an updated voter registration card. “DMV had not done its job,” said Precinct 402 Captain Diane Wilson. She said usually DMV offices share updated records with voter registration.
She admitted, though, the voters also failed to do their part. “You should always verify your voter registration at least 30 days before any election,” she said. “When these people did not receive a new voter registration card in the mail, they should have called,” she said. Wilson said the Commonwealth sent new voter registration cards to all registered Virginia voters in 2012.
Voter turnout in Precinct 402 has been good. "It's busier than any other election," said Wilson.

Update 12:15 p.m.
Voter turnout at the Dorothy Hart Community Center (Precinct 201) has been good all morning, according to Assistant Precinct Chief Jeanette Cadwallender. As of 11:35 a.m., 1,464 of the precinct’s 4,261 registered voters had cast a ballot, Cadwallender said.
First-time voters Sabia Prescott, Alyssa Hellman, Valerie Thatcher and Mary Lupinacci were all smiles as they left the community center. The University of Mary Washington students said voting is an important right and responsibility.
"Everyone's vote really does matter, especially in this election, because it's going to be close," said Lupinacci.
Editor's Note: Check back throughout the day for reports from the City's other polling locations.
Update 9:15 a.m.
The Virginia State Board of Elections reminds voters that in 2012 changes were made to Virginia's voter identification laws. Voters must have proper identification with them at the polls, or they will be given a provisional ballot. The State Board of Elections provides a list of acceptable forms of I.D. on their website.
You also must be registered to vote. You may check your registration status at Virginia's Election and Registration Information System (VERIS).
This unfortunate story was reported from our area on Twitter: @mattrathbun "2 baby boomers came in to vote & were upset to find they were supposed 2 register beforehand. Sad."
Update 8 a.m.
Fredericksburg residents report on Twitter the voting lines at the City's five precincts are long, and at times parking is hard to find, but the lines are moving well.
Fredericksburg resident RT @WinningShotsMOsays 'process was quick at Dorothy Hart'
@mattrathbun "I’m happy with long lines and no parking! It means folks showed up."
L.G. said on Facebook, "I was number 14 at the Dorothy Hart Community Center!"
And then a little humor: @Aaron_Spicer "Dear Instagram, I get it. U voted. Now can we go back to posting pictures of our dogs and food?"
