Local Student Wins Arianna Cox Jr. Sportsmanship Award

Bobby Dunlap was presented the perpetual trophy at the Battlefiled Horse Show Association 2012 awards banquet.

Bobby Dunlap, a working student at Hazelwild Farm Education Foundation and member of the Hazelwild Hunters riding team, won the 2012 Arianna Cox Jr. Sportsmanship Award from the Battlefield Horse Show Association (BHSA).

The perpetual trophy in memory of Arianna Cox is presented annually to a junior exhibitor who exemplifies good sportsmanship, integrity, honesty and adherence to the BHSA rules throughout the show year.

Each show manger nominates on junior member they have observed promoting good sportsmanship at any of their shows.  According to the BHSA website, good sportsmanship includes:

  • Handles success or defeat with grace.
  • Interacts respectfully and responsibly with trainers, parents, show personnel and other participants.
  • Lends a helping hand.
  • Works hard with a great attitude.
  • Exhibits a sporting character throughout the ups and downs of the show year.
  • Has persevered through various hardships to achieve personal success with their horse.
  • Is a role model for other juniors.
  • Exemplifies integrity and honesty in their character and conduct.

Bobby's riding instructor is Teresa Seay, Hazelwild equestrian director, and his team coach is Chelsie Liming.

Bobby attends Riverbend High School in Fredericksburg.
