Maryland Woman Reports Robbery in Dowtown Fredericksburg

The victim told police the suspect stole her wallet and keys while she walked her dog on Prince Edward Street.

A 56-year-old Maryland resident visiting Fredericksburg told polce that while she was walking her dog in the 1500 block of Prince Edward Street a young male grabbed her wallet and keys and then fled.

Fredericksburg Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said that the incident was reported at about 11:40 p.m. on July 13. She said the victim told officers that the suspect approached her and asked for a hotel recommendation.

"The victim walked with the male subject for a short distance, when suddenly the subject reached into the victim’s back pocket and grabbed her wallet and keys, tearing the victim’s clothing in the process," Bledsoe said.

A nearby resident called 911 after hearing the woman scream for help.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20’s, approximately 5-feet 8-inches tall with a thin build, and wearing all dark clothing.

At about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Hanover Street, a 50-year-old resident told police that he was awakened by a noise coming from the first floor of his home. The resident grabbed his shotgun and went to check his house.

"The resident encountered an unknown male subject walking up the stairs inside the home and he ordered the subject to go back down the steps and get down on the floor in the entrance hallway," Bledsoe said. "The subject complied and was still on the floor when officers arrived."

Bledsoe said the man appeared to be extremely intoxicated. Daniel Veit, 27, of Fredericksburg was arrested for public intoxication and unlawful entry.

"Veit was able to get into the house because the occupants inadvertently left the front door unsecured," Bledsoe said.
