NPR Comes to Fredericksburg

Residents in the greater Spotsylvania County-Fredericksburg area can now hear a local signal of NPR and BBC public radio programming on 88.3 FM.  The official call letters for the new station are WQIQ, but the service will be known simply as RADIO IQ.

"This new signal is Spotsylvania’s first NPR member station licensed in the county," said Glenn Gleixner, General Manager of WVTF and RADIO IQ in a press release. 

WVTF Public Radio and RADIO IQ are public radio broadcast services of Virginia Tech, serving nearly 160,000 listeners in central and southwest Virginia, southern West Virginia, and northern North Carolina.

WVTF provides listeners with classical, jazz and NPR programs. Its companion station, RADIO IQ, broadcasts BBC and NPR news, talk and discussion programs.  

The RADIO IQ weekday schedule features NPR news and talk programs:

• "Morning Edition" from 5 -10 a.m.                            

• "Diane Rehm Show" from 10 a.m. -12 noon

• "Fresh Air" from 12 noon -1 p.m.

• "Here and Now" from 1 -2 p.m.

• "Talk of the Nation" from 2 - 4 p.m.

• "All Things Considered" from 4 - 7 p.m.

• "To the Point" from 7 - 8 p.m.

• "Talk of the Nation" from 8 - 9 p.m.

• "Tell Me More" from 9 - 10 p.m.

• "Diane Rehm Show" from 10 - 11 p.m.

• "BBC News" from 11 p.m. - 5 a.m.

The weekend line-up includes "This American Life", "Radio Lab", "The Ted Radio Hour", "Fresh Air", "Studio 360", "Being", and more.  The complete RADIO IQ schedule for the Spotsylvania area is available online. 

“Much of the RADIO IQ schedule is known to the market, but public radio signal strength has been a concern for numerous residents," said Gleixner. Over the past few years we’ve had many folks ask us to bring RADIO IQ to the community.  We are excited and pleased to finally make this happen," he said.
