Obama Outpaces Romney in Fredericksburg Large Donor Funds
Both candidates raise nearly $2 million from donations greater than $200, but Romney has $100,000 lead
President Barack Obama and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney have each raised nearly $2 million from Virginia residents who have given at least $200, but the former Massachusetts governor has a $100,000 edge, according to a new report by a nonpartisan group tracking campaign funds.
More than half of the funds in Virginia raised by each candidate between January and May have come from Northern Virginia according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
Romney has raised $1.9 million in donations of $200 or more — 78 percent of it from Northern Virginia, according to VPAP. Obama has raised $1.8 million, 70 percent of which is from Northern Virginia, according to VPAP.
Romney has raised a total of $3.8 million from large and small donors in Virginia. Obama has raised a total of $3.6 million from Virginia donors large and small, according to the latest report from Open Secrets, a nonpartisan group that tracks campaign contributions.
The VPAP analysis of donations from large contributors comes as both campaigns are deploying their campaign workers across Virginia, which experts predict will be one of this election's most important battleground states.
Fredericksburg's median household income is $43,558 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Any idea how the surrounding counties -- where most of live -- are doing with donations?

Sorry, Jsmith, blame it on the post office but there's just too many ZIP Codes and we're sticking with Fredericksburg only for right now...however that could change.

Jsmith and others, we will work on a surrounding counties for Spotsy and Stafford, but that's as far as we wil likely be able to go. It's a bit time consuming to do this feature, but I hope you all enjoy it

Thanks for the feedback, Jsmith. We'll work on getting that additional information on the site this week.

I find it quite fascinating that people from the "poorer" regions in the state with lower levels of education seem to contribute and support the Republican candidates. And what about their faiths? Mostly conservative Christians? If you really want to call them Christians.

Wow Anne, that's a lot of (baseless) assumptions.
How can you say Northern Virginia or inside the Beltway, with their high number of federal employees, have a lower level of education than the I-95 corridor? And why the snide "if you really want to call them Christians" remark? Or are you simply implying only "stupid Christians" vote for Romney?

Northern Virginia is not a poorer region. I looked at the stats from SW Virginia and a number of other places. I could get a little more technical if you like/ But I stand by what I stated. Not I-95 but I81. As far as Christians, to me a Christian would want others who are less fortunate to be cared for. Not so in this state and this country. I am implying that Christians tend to lean right and vote not for someone who cares but those who only want the have's to have and not the have nots. I stand by that as well. I know folks who will not vote for Obama based on his color alone. And a black American male can't possibly be a Christian. What hogwash.

Wow Anne, I don't even know where to begin.
"I know folks who will not vote for Obama based on his color alone"- and I know folks who will vote for him based on his color alone, what's your point?
"As far as Christians, to me a Christian would want others who are less fortunate to be cared for. Not so in this state and this country." - Christians are the highest charitable givers in the country, and the U.S. is a world leader in charitable giving. Christians (which you seem to know little about?) certainly want the poor cared, but there are many who would rather see it done through private organizations. Also, Obama supports many issues (gay marriage, abortion, etc.) that socially conservative Christians oppose. If he were a social conservative that ran on an agenda of helping the downtrodden, he would probably garner more Christian support.
"And a black American male can't possibly be a Christian. What hogwash." I know many African Americans who consider themselves strong Christians. I think they would disagree with you.

Again, you are assuming Eagle. See, I am a Christian and quite liberal. And that you equate only two things with gay marriage and abortion and nothing else. I chuckled. You think God didn't make gays? I say he did, knew what he was doing and accepts them as they are. Why? Do the ten commandments mention them? Abortion? Yet that is all you guys care about. Have you ever been raped and forced to bear a criminals child as a child? I know a woman who was, did and her life has been hell forever. All because she was forced to have a child she never asked for as a child. So stop assuming....Social Conservative? LOL. Obama inherited over 10.3 trillion dollars in debt but he is blamed for that and his. Have any of the so called social conservatives worked with him? Not a one that I know of. I amd done beating this dead horse to death. I stand firm in my belife that my GOD loves us all, gay, abortionist and abortionees. I stand for all people and their right to not have their lives destroyed. And I believe firmly in the seperation of church and state.
