Officer Spots Suspect Driving on Fall Hill Avenue

Suspect was taken into custody for pending warrants.

A City of Fredericksburg police officer saw the suspect from a shooting incident at Grapevine Cafe on June 9 driving a white Infiniti on Fall Hill Avenue and took him into custody on Sept. 15.

A release issued by the department said that the officer followed the vehicle onto Wicklow Drive and took the driver into custody on the pending warrants.

"Due to a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the driver at the time of his arrest, the officer then obtained a warrant to search the vehicle," said a City of Fredericksburg press release. "The search yielded a number of small bags containing marijuana and a pistol that was hidden under the hood of the Infiniti."

Lance Durante, 23, of Spotsylvania was arrested on the outstanding warrants charging him with reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a public place; he was additionally charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, carrying a concealed weapon, and altering the serial number of a firearm, said the department.

Durante was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
