UPDATED: One Man KiIled in I-95 Wreck at Fredericksburg Exit
The wreck was near the 131 mile marker in Fredericksburg.
UPDATE 4:24 p.m.: Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said today that Jermon R. Howard, 27, of Spotsylvania County died in last night's single-vehicle crash on I-95 near the Fall Hill Avenue overpass. Howard was driving a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis when he lost control and struck a guardrail on the right side of the interstate going south.
Dyson R. Williams, 19, was a passenger in the car and he was taken to Mary Washington Hospital. His condition is not known.
Tyler said neither men were wearing seat belts. Howard died at the scene.
State Trooper J.F. Poling is investigating the crash.
Tyler said both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Fredericksburg Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Jones said one man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 95 South at the 131.3 mile marker.
Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
The 911 call to Fredericksburg Emergency Communications came in at 11 p.m. and both Fredericksburg and Stafford County units were dispatched to the scene.
"Fire Department personnel from both jurisdictions working under a Unified Command structure quickly assessed the scene and determine that only a single vehicle was involved and it had gone up and over the guardrail system and landed in the grassy area on the opposite side," Jones said. "It appeared due to the damage the vehicle sustained that it had rolled over at least once."
A man in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and a second victim was transported to Mary Washington Hospital, but the condition of the patient is not known at this time.
"Fire Department units worked with Virginia State Police to provide lighting of the accident scene and assist with removal of the victim at the conclusion of the incident," he said.
