Fredericksburg Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Jones said one man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 95 South at the 131.3 mile marker.
Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
The 911 call to Fredericksburg Emergency Communications came in at 11 p.m. and both Fredericksburg and Stafford County units were dispatched to the scene.
"Fire Department personnel from both jurisdictions working under a Unified Command structure quickly assessed the scene and determine that only a single vehicle was involved and it had gone up and over the guardrail system and landed in the grassy area on the opposite side," Jones said. "It appeared due to the damage the vehicle sustained that it had rolled over at least once."
A man in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and a second victim was transported to Mary Washington Hospital, but the condition of the patient is not known at this time.
"Fire Department units worked with Virginia State Police to provide lighting of the accident scene and assist with removal of the victim at the conclusion of the incident," he said.
