City of Fredericksburg Police have a warrant out for a King George woman regarding an attempted carjacking incident Sunday morning at Mary Washington Hospital.
According to police reports, a 19-year-old Fredericksburg resident told police she was sitting in her vehicle outside of the emergency room entrance when a female approached the driver's side window of her car and asked for a ride.
When the victim refused, the female made statements and gestures alleging that she had a weapon, said police.
"The victim did not believe her and she got out of her car to walk inside the hospital," reads a press release from the police department. "While walking toward the ER doors, the suspect assaulted the victim, grabbed her by the hair, and tried to steal her car keys. The two struggled and the victim was able to break free by striking the suspect in the face."
Police reports said the victim then alerted a security guard inside.
The suspect was subsequently identified as Rishelle Newman, 22, of King George, and a warrant has been obtained against Newman charging her with attempted carjacking, police said.
Newman had not been arrested by publication time.
