Police: Bombing Suspect Captured in Montana
The Stafford Sheriff’s Office said Laurence Alan Stewart II allegedly threw pipe bombs at at pursuing law enforcement officers.
The Stafford County Sheriff's Office announced at about 2:30 p.m. today that Laurence Alan Stewart II has been captured in Montana.
“Preliminary information received from Montana is that a pursuit ensued which resulted in a number of pipe bombs being thrown at pursuing law enforcement officers," said a release from the Stafford Sheriff's Office. "Stewart’s vehicle was disabled by law enforcement officers. Stewart left his car and ran on foot, armed with a handgun. He was taken into custody."
The sheriff's office release said "this has been a rapidly developing incident and we will have an update as more information becomes available."
Stewart is being charged in Stafford County with two counts of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of arson of an occupied dwelling and one count of use of a weapon or device for a terror act. The City of Fredericksburg is also charging Stewart with one count of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, one count of missile into a occupied dwelling and one count arson of an occupied dwelling.
