Police: Cop Impersonator Arrested
Man allegedly surprised contractors at Eagle Village
City police arrested a man early Thursday morning after contractors at the new University of Mary Washington Eagle Village section reported a man claiming to be a police officer, according to the Fredericksburg Police crime reports.
At about 3:30 a.m., the suspect, Sameer Ladwa, a 37-year-old of no fixed address, allegedly surprised contractors inside the retail section, near the Blackstone Coffee shop. The man, who knocked on a glass door and was shining a flashlight, said he was an officer “and he was investigating a crime on campus,” the police report states.
When UMW police arrived, the suspect had left the area where the workers spotted him, according to the report. Officers then reviewed surveillance video and saw that Ladwa had gone to a stairwell near the rear of the block of businesses. He surrendered and was arrested.
Police charged Ladwa with impersonating a police officer and trespassing. Also, on Wednesday Ladwa was arrested after he allegedly stole a bicycle from the back of a pickup truck near Eileen’s Bakery on Caroline Street. An officer stopped Ladwa near the scene with the stolen bike, according to police. He faces a misdemeanor larceny charge in that case.
