Poll: Vote For Fredericksburg's Athlete of the Year

In 2011, we have seen some great feats performed by Fredericksburg athletes. From local playgrounds to a , the venues vary but never the love for the game. Many of their efforts will go unheralded, but here at Patch we want to give you, the community, a chance to recognize some of the very best.

Below are the nominees for the Fredericksburg Patch athlete of the year. Place your vote for the most deserving candidate and check back after the Christmas holiday to view the results.

Morgan Jones

Jones was far and away , culminating her senior season by being named a first team All-American. The standout forward led the Eagles with 24 goals and 10 assists, and helped lead the team to a 15-5 record. While Jones will be moving on with graduation in the spring, there's no doubt the competitive spirit and will to win she showed on the hockey field will carry over into her professional life.

Bert Jacoby

Not only did this 28-year old Fredericksburg school teacher finish 28th in a field of more than 7,000 in May's , but he did it by passing every runner on the course. In the process, he raised quite a bit of money for the , collecting pledges for each runner he passed. Even chipped in, pledging $10 for every ten runners passed.

Ethan Preston

If you love football, know anything about , or live within ten square blocks of Kenmore Avenue, this nomination should come as no surprise. The senior running back has 218 carries for 1910 yards and 33 touchdowns, and put his . As a freshman, he was also a member of the 2008 James Monroe team that won the state championship.
