Interstate 95 and primary roads are clear this morning in the Fredericksburg region, while snow is falling in western Spotsylvania County and secondary roads there have snow-covered patches, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff report.

VDOT rates road conditions as:

  • Clear: No conditions.
  • Minor:  Bare pavement, except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush.
  • Severe: Significant amount of snow or ice is covering the roadway, and roadway may be partially blocked or affected by drifting snow.

Road conditions vary along the Middle Peninsula. Primary roads in Essex, King & Queen and King William counties are in minor condition with isolated areas of snow. Secondary roads in King William, which received several inches of snow, are in moderate condition.

VDOT crews remain on duty this morning to clear and treat roads in response to changing weather conditions.

Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org, or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time road conditions in any area of the state.

VDOT’s Customer Service Center is open 24 hours a day to answer questions and take reports of roadway hazards at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
