Spotsylvania Bicyclist Dies In Crash

Sheriff's office said the bike did not have lights and the cyclist was not wearing any reflective gear.

Spotsylvania County resident Allison R. Britt was killed early this morning on her bicycle when it was struck by a car on Courthouse House Road, the sheriff's office said today.

Mike Harvey, Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said Britt was 49 years old and she died at the scene. She was riding her bike at 2:30 a.m. in the eastbound lane on Courthouse Road near Bloomsbury Lane when she was hit by a white 1999 four-door Volkswagen Passat.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team responded to the scene to investigate the crash and had to close Courthouse Road for several hours.

"At this time speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be a factor. The investigation is continuing," Harvey said.
