Spotsylvania Sheriff's Program Drops Property Crime
Sheriff's office's Operation Out of Sight was a big success, said Capt. Mike Harvey.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office will continue Operation Out of Sight after the great success reported for this past weekend.
Capt. Mike Harvey said that with the cooperation with neighborhood residents, the sheriff's office saw a 73 percent reduction in property crimes during this time period as compared to the prior weekend of July 27-30.
Harvey said the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office will be in other neighborhoods conducting Operation Out of Sight in response to an increase in neighborhood vandalisms and thefts from vehicles.
"The men and women of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office are committed to reducing crime and safeguarding your property and will be stepping up enforcement through directed patrols, surveillance, bike units, and public awareness until we can put a stop to this significant issue," Harvey said."Thieves are entering unlocked vehicles and breaking windows in order to steal your hard-earned belongings."
To assist the sheriff's office with the program, you can:

- Record the model and serial number of all electronics.
