UMW Women's Basketball Cap Undefeated Season With Drubbing of Wesley

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team glided to a 97-47 victory over Wesley College on Saturday, marking its first undefeated season in seven years.

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team finished the regular season undefeated at 25-0 after crushing Wesley College 97-47 Saturday afternoon.

Senior Jenna McRae, who will likely vie for player of the year recognition, scored the game-high 21 points to lead the team to its 25th win in a row. This is the second time the UMW women's basketball team has gone undefeated in the regular season in the past seven years, all coached under Deena Applebury.

The team shot 52.4 percent from the floor, made 11 of 23 three-point shots and 20 of 29 free throws. The defense held Wesley to just 30.8 percent shooting from the floor.

McRae made nine of her 12 shots, including two three-point shots. Fellow senior, Katie Wimmer, also had a great game with 17 points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.

The win gives UMW the top seed in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament that begins next week and the Lady Eagles will host either Marymount University or St. Mary's College in the semifinal on Thursday 6 p.m.
