 sp\;\nFREDERICKSBURG\, VA&nbsp\; &nbsp\;Experience a contemporary exhibi
t with a Renaissance flair throughout the month of November at the Frede
ricksburg Center for the Creative Arts (FCCA). Opening October 28 is Ave
\, Patina\, the latest exhibition at the Members&rsquo\; Gallery of the
FCCA\, featuring the most recent works by Spotsylvania artist Patte Orms
by. Her newest paintings illustrate her interpretation of the visual mys
tique surrounding Renaissance holy paintings\, even without the religiou
s subject matter. Combining traditional materials with her own technique
s for aging and oxidation\, Ormsby&rsquo\;s paintings are built layer up
on layer\, manipulated to show through or melt away\, and capture the pa
tina of age. Each invites the viewer to consider what lies beneath and w
hat came before\, a convergence of past and present. A First Friday open
ing reception will be held on November 2 from 6pm-8:30pm.\n&nbsp\;\n&ldq
uo\;Few times in the history of art are as symbolically and visually com
pelling as that of the Italian Renaissance. This inspires my painting as
I use elements of deep color\, texture\, gold leaf and pattern to prese
nt that sacred historical richness in a contemporary context. Using thes
e elements in my paintings is my way of expressing the quiet solemnity a
nd simmering energy of places that are sacred to me\,&rdquo\; shares Orm
sby.\n&nbsp\;\nThe Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts is a non-
profit\, all-volunteer organization and a partner of the Virginia Museum
