For some reason growing up I always thought the magic age where I would be acne free was any age that didn’t have the word “teen” in it. I turned twenty and to my surprise I STILL had acne! Mystified I began my quest to get clear. I read every magazine article, believed every commercial and print ad that I saw and don’t get me started on the “ladies” at the makeup counters! I felt pretty intelligent for my age yet I kept getting suckered into believing how one magic product could make my acne go away. I think all acne sufferers have been in my shoes…tired of spending yet another dollar on false promises.
After spending countless hours on professional acne education I finally got it! As part of my quest to “get clear” I do solemnly swear to help you “get clear” too.
What acne is not!
It is not due to dirty skin.
It is not due to eating chocolate.
It is not due to sexual frustrations.
It is not just a teenage problem.
Question: What is acne?
Answer: Acne is an actual disease of the pore. It can be caused by certain drugs, medications or exposure to certain chemicals but most acne is an inherited tendency. Dead skin cells are shedding much too quickly in the acne-prone pore. It forms a plug along with oil and hair and this is where the problem begins. If the body doesn’t see the plug as an invader, then it remains as a non-inflamed lesion, aka blackhead. If it does, then it forms into pimples, pustules and cysts.
Question: I wash my face a lot, why do I keep getting acne?
Answer: Acne is formed below the surface of the skin and cannot be washed away. To clear acne, you need clinical-strength products that are designed to penetrate the pore, exfoliate the dead skin cells and kill the acne bacteria.
If you are acne prone there are ingredients that are imperative to incorporate into your skincare regimen. Over the counter brands incorporate some of these beneficial ingredients but they also include pore clogging ingredients…which cancel out the good of that product. Do your research and know what you are getting!
