Arrive Alive Tour, Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office

Release: On Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, 2014, Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the Arrive Alive Tour. The event is aimed to help educate and prevent teen texting and driving and teen drinking and driving. According to the YOVASO (Youth of VA Speak Out About Traffic Safety) website, in 2012 in Virginia alone 83 teens were killed, 8,405 teens were injured and 1,376 teens were seriously injured. Thirty two (39%) of the teens killed were unrestrained.

The Arrive Alive Tour will be hosted in the parking lot of the Spotsylvania Wal-Mart on Southpoint Parkway. The event is based around a driving simulator and kids age 16-20 will be afforded the opportunity to operate the simulator which will mimic the effects of drinking and driving and texting and driving. All others in attendance will be able to view the same thing via a large projected screen. Additionally, golf carts with “drunk goggles” will be at the event to allow even more to participate in a hand on manner. “This is a preventative educational effort as our County approaches prom season and graduation season and we hope this saves at least one life by stressing smart choices and safer
behavior”, said Sheriff Roger Harris.

Other efforts are also in place by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office to help curb underage drinking and unsafe behavior such as underage buyer operations, DUI checkpoints and speed enforcement operations.
