Annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, hanging baskets and planters are available for sale.

Rappahannock Adult Activities, Inc. (RAAI), a day support service of the Rappahannock Community Services Board, will hold its annual plant sale beginning April 20 at their 750 Kings Highway, Fredericksburg, location.

Sale hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds provide scholarships to RAAI.

During the organization's 27th Annual Mayfest Celebration on May 4, plants will be on sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"RAAI participants have been working hard in our greenhouses and take great pride in their plants," Melessa Suder, horticulture specialist, said.  In addition to annuals and perennials, RAAI offers a large selection of vegetables, herbs, hanging baskets and planters.  "The participants grow more than 100 plant varieties," Suder said.

For more than 35 years, Rappahannock Adult Activities, Inc., has provided a community-based developmental day program to promote dignity, independence, individualization, inclusion and productivity to people with intellectual disabilities. RAAI helps keep these individuals out of institutional settings and allows caregivers respite from care responsibilities.

Day support services for individuals without the state funded Intellectual Disability Waiver or another funding source can cost up to $120 a day or more than $20,000 annually. "More than 10 local individuals receive financial assistance to attend day support programming each year," Suder said.

RAAI currently serves more than 150 participants at six locations in the City of Fredericksburg and counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford.

In addition to the horticulture program, participants volunteer in the community, enjoy a technology lab, and are active in many wellness activities. The Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) serves as the fiscal agent. RAAI is a proud partner agency of the Rappahannock United Way.
