MLK Holiday 2014 Schedules, Events in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford

School, government, post office closures; VRE, FRED, trash and recycling schedule changes.

Public schools in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford are closed on Monday, Jan. 20, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

City of Fredericksburg offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20.

City of Fredericksburg Monday trash will be collected Tuesday; Tuesday's trash will be collected Wednesday; Monday and Tuesday recycling will be picked up Tuesday.

FRED Transit will not run VRE buses on Monday.

Germanna Community College will be closed on Jan. 20 in observance of the holiday.

Spotsylvania County government offices are closed Friday, Jan. 17,  for Lee-Jackson Day and Monday, Jan. 20, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

All Spotsylvania County convenience centers will be closed Monday.  The Livingston Landfill Facility will be open 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Stafford County Public Schools will hold their Second Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service event, Canstruction®.  Teams are composed of students, teachers, area businesses and community members.   This year's event will be held at the Spotsylvania Towne Center.  Bring a canned food or monetary donation for a ticket and come out to see the displays and vote for people's choice. One Can Make A Difference.   Click here for additional information.

The U.S. Postal Service is closed Monday.  There will be no mail delivery.

The University of Mary Washington will be closed on Jan. 20 in observance of the holiday.

Virginia Railway Express (VRE)
will operate an "S" schedule on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Only trains designated with an "S" above its train number on the schedule will run.

We will be monitoring train operations and answering calls and emails from the Quantico station and as such our Alexandria office will be closed to walk-ins.
