New Weather Alert for Sunday, Monday in Fredericksburg Region

NWS warns of coldest temperatures in 20 years.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a freezing rain advisory for the Fredericksburg area from 5 - 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by rain throughout the day.

Little or no ice accumulation is expected, but conditions will make driving dangerous.

Monday morning after 11 a.m. snow may move into the area, according to the NWS.  New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Bitterly cold conditions will move in behind an arctic front Monday through Tuesday night.  Daily record cold temperatures and dangerously low wind chills are expected across the area.

"This air mass may turn out to be the coldest in 20 years," the NWS said.
