Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center Announces New Board Members

The five new members replaced those whose term expired at the end of 2012.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center welcomed five new members to their Board of Trustees, Jeanne Burkett, medical center spokesperson, announced in a press release. 

The new board members are:

  • Patricia Conway-Morana
  • Lynne Richardson
  • Jeffrey Askew
  • Christopher Vaughn
  • Mark Kuechler

“We are proud to welcome these dynamic and enterprising community leaders to our Board," Tim Tobin, CEO of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, said. Their background and knowledge of our community will provide positive contributions," he said.

Following are the biographies of each new board member.

Patricia Conway-Morana, PhD(c), RN, C, CPHQ, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE

Ms. Patricia Conway-Morana is a consultant for the Joint Commission Resources and has worked as a Labor and Delivery staff nurse and in several leadership roles throughout her career including Nurse Manager, Risk Management Consultant, Director of Accreditation and Licensure and Chief Nurse Executive.

Ms. Conway-Morana holds five certifications in Inpatient Obstetrics, Professional in Healthcare Quality, Board Certified Nurse Executive, Advanced, Certified Nurse in Executive Practice and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

She received her basic nursing education as a diploma graduate from Riverside Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jefferson College of Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University. She also holds a Master of Administration from Lynchburg College and is currently a Nursing Doctoral Candidate at George Mason University. Pat is currently working on her nursing doctoral dissertation, “Predicting Structurational Divergence in Nursing.”

Lynne Richardson, PhD

Dr. Lynne D. Richardson is the dean of the College of Business at the University of Mary Washington. As the chief academic officer, she is the inaugural dean for the College of Business, created in 2010.

Richardson comes to UMW from Mississippi State University where she served as the dean for the university’s College of Business and as a professor of marketing. Prior to Mississippi State University, she was the dean of the Miller College of Business at Ball State University, where she also was a professor of marketing. In addition, she has served as associate dean for undergraduate programs and external relations for the School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and as the director of the university’s MBA program for the university’s Graduate School of Management. She has held positions at the Birmingham-Southern College and the University of North Alabama.

Richardson received a doctorate in marketing from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree in marketing, with highest honors, from the University of Montevallo. 

Jeffrey Askew, MD

Dr. Askew is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Nuclear Cardiology and practices with Virginia Cardiovascular Consultants in Fredericksburg. 

He served as chief of Internal Medicine at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio and was trained in invasive and non-invasive cardiology at The University of Cincinnati. His areas of interest and expertise include cardiac nuclear stress testing, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, consultative and preventive cardiology and clinical research. 

Dr. Askew has been a member of the medical staff at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center since May 2010.

Christopher Vaughn, MD

Dr. Vaughn is board certified in oncology and hematology and practices with Hematology/Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University and his Doctor of Medicine from Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Vaughn’s residency was at the University of Virginia’s Department of Internal Medicine and his fellowship at the University of Virginia’s Division of Hematology and Oncology. Dr. Vaughn has been a member of the medical staff at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center since September 2010.

Mark Kuechler

Mark R. Kuechler of Spotsylvania is President of the MK Group, which advises clients around the world on distribution of their products. He is an appointed member and current co-chairman of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Emerging Markets Advisory Committee.

Mr. Kuechler graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Industrial Safety. He is a member of the University of Mary Washington Foundation’s Board of Directors and the Spotsylvania County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Committee, and is the Assistant Chief with the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department.
