Traffic Stops Expected During U.S. 17 Roadwork

Virginia Department of Transportation warns of overnight delays of up to 10 minutes on Stafford County roadway as part of widening project.

Drivers on U.S. 17 in Stafford County should expect brief traffic stops near Interstate 95 during overnight hours beginning Tuesday night and ending Thursday night.

The 5-10 minute delays will be due to utility workers lifting aerial cables across the travel lanes, according to a release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

"Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each evening, traffic will be stopped several times for up to 10 minutes between McLane Drive and Banks Ford Parkway so workers (can) lift the cables across the road," according to the release. "Motorists may experience minor delays."

The $48.9 million, 2-mile widening project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2016.
