VDOT: 'Hot Spots' for Road Closures and Construction in Fredericksburg Area

Keep a heads up for these area road closures and construction projects.

The following road construction, lane closures and "hot spots" were submitted by the Virginia Department of Transportation for Sept. 9-15. 

Stafford County 

Where: Route 610 
When: Friday
7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
What: Crews will be paving on Route 610 just from just west of Route 643 (Joshua Road) to just west of the bridge over Aquia Creek. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Expect delays.

Spotsylvania County
Where: Interstate 95
When: 
Sunday - Thursday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.:
What: Crews will continue milling and paving on Interestate 95 south at the Rappahannock River Bridge located just south of Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) between mile markers 130 and 132. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Expect delays. 

Where: Route 1
When: Monday – Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
What: Crew will be paving and line striping on Route 1 in the vicinity of the Caroline County line. North and southbound motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Where: Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Bridge over I-95
When: Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
What: Crews will be inspecting the Route 606 bridge over I-95. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 606.  

Where: Route 738 (Partlow Road) at Ta River
When: Beginning Tuesday
What: Traffic will be shifted to the southbound side of the bridge to allow crews to continue work on the deck rehabilitation project. A temporary traffic signal maintains one lane of traffic across the structure. The project is expected to be complete in October 2012. 

Where: King George County Route 218
When: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
What: Crews will be milling, paving and replacing guardrail on Route 218 between Rt. 694 and Route 609. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. 

Where: Harry Nice Bridge
When: Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
What: Motorists will be restricted to one lane on the Harry Nice Bridge located on Route 301 bridge. The Maryland Transportation Authority will be conducting routine bridge inspections. The inspections are expected to continue through November. Expect delays. For real-time traffic information visit www.md511.org 

Where: Caroline County Interstate 95 South and Ramp to Exit 104
When: Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 5 a.m.
What: Crews continue paving and line striping on I-95 south between mile marker 108.1 located just south of Exit 110 (Rt. 639/Ladysmith) and mile marker 103.7 located just south of Exit 104 (Rt. 207/Carmel Church). One lane will be closed in the work zone between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. each day.  Two lanes and the ramp to Exit 104 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. Motorists should use Exit 110 or Exit 96 as alternate exits. 

Where: Interstate 95 North @ Exit 104
When: Thursday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
What: Crews will be paving the acceleration and deceleration lanes on I-95 north at Exit 104 (Rt. 207/Carmel Church).  The exit will be closed to traffic.  Motorists should use Exit 96 as an alternate exit. 

Where: Interstate 95
When: Monday - Friday7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
What: Crews continue work to replace guardrail at various locations on I-95 south between Exit 110 (Rt. 639/Ladysmith) and Exit 118 (Rt. 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County. The right lane and shoulder will be closed in the work zone.
