Rikki's Refuge volunteer and board member Melissa Felts was in downtown Fredericksburg today fundraising and bringing awareness to the 335-acre animal refuge 40 miles west of Fredericksburg in Orange County.
Felts was at at 301 Lafayette Blvd taking donations for cookies, brownies and cakes and selling raffle tickets to win a quilt that is autographed by 20 celebrities.
Tickets are $1 each and six for $5. For more information, go to the Rikki's Refuge blog. Felts, of Fredericksburg, got the signatures and Jo Ann Cooper of South Carolina made the quilt, a 73.50-inches wide by 76-inches long with 100-percent cotton and 100-percent wool batting.
Some of the celebrity animal lovers who signed the quilt are Johnny Depp, Elizabeth Taylor, Angelica Houston, Betty White, Matt Damon, Dolly Parton and Ted Allen.
"I sent out 118 letters and I got 20 back," she said. Each celebrity signed a piece of fabric and returned it to Felts and it was added to the quilt. She got Taylor to sign it two months before she died last year.
Rikki's Refuge has 1,300 animals of 22 different species on a 335-acre farm.
