Passing Grace: Singer/Songwriter Pierce Pettis Comes to Fredericskburg

Ashleigh Chevalier previews a local show which you should probably go to.

No one needs to explain what music can do for the soul: its healing powers, its ability to communicate the simplest messages we can never seem to express in conversation, and the ability to escape our present realities and remember the past. Every person chooses his own artists, reflectors, communicators, the musicians he connects with. The most precious and telling words, melodies, and notes can be found in the rhythmic drops of the rain on the roofs, in the radio speakers, or from that special artist only a few people know about.

Pierce Pettis, a truly genuine and touching original singer/songwriter reaches in and grips the parts of the soul the rain, the radio, and the special artist too. His music is intimate and poignant, expressing an understanding beyond our own fumbled words and navigations.   Pierce has released over ten albums since 1984, each one with its own grace filled message, but with all the Pierce flavor.

He brings traditional folk, and even a little blues flair, with captivating lyrics and story telling, very much in the style of Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, later Cat Stevens, and Joan Baez, who actually recorded Pierce's "Song at the End of the Movie" and released it on her 1979 album Honest Lullaby. Pierce is the kind of performer who makes the audience feel like he is having a conversation directly with each individual, as if sitting there and having a cup of coffee.

Listening to one of his CDs while driving, sitting on the porch, maybe even painting, is absolutely refreshing. Check out www.piercepettis.com, and check out his recordings.

Saturday evening, at a  house concert, to which you and yours can RSVP, Pierce Pettis will perform in a warm, comfortable, and family friendly setting. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Performance starts 7:30 p.m. There is a recommended $15 donation. More information and directions are available at www.houseabouttonight.blogspot.com. House About Tonight Productions is dedicated to the exposition of travelling and performing original artists, and all proceeds go towards artists compensation. Pierce Pettis in concert will be a very special experience, and it is rare for him to pass through Fredericksbrug.
