Discovery Days at UMW

  • When: Friday, April 5, 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Where: University of Mary Washington
  • Why Go: A day perfect for high schoolers trying to decide on the perfect college. Take a tour, attend seminars and speak with current students at UMW.
  • Price: FREE, registration required

Japan: Two Years After the 3/11 Earthquake-Tsunami

  • When: Friday, April 5, 2 - 7 p.m.
  • Where: University of Mary Washington
  • Why Go: Watch the documentary film, “Live Your Dream,” hear lectures from UMW faculty, and experience a live performance of traditional Japanese music. 
  • Price: FREE

Fun Friday: Earthquakes! Shakin’ and Quakin’

  • When: Friday, April 5, 4:30 - 5:15 p.m.
  • Where: England Run Library
  • Why Go: Grades K-6 will learn what makes an earthquake happen with hands-on activities.

Smuttynose Tap Takeover

  • When: Friday, April 5, 6 p.m.
  • Where: 909 Saloon
  • Why Go: Smuttynose Brewing Company has taken over the taps for first Friday with a great line-up of beers.

Lions Charity Bingo 

  •  When: Friday, April 5, 6:45 p.m.
  •  Where: Falmouth Volunteer Fire Station
  •  Why Go: Enjoy games of Bingo, with all proceeds going toward the Lions Club for community service projects.

‘Burg Idol Round 2

  • When: Friday, April 5, 7 p.m.
  • Where: Brock’s Riverside Grill 
  • Why Go: The remaining 21 contestants will compete to be one of the 10 selected to move on. 
  • Price: $10

Railroad Museum and Train Rides 

  •  When: Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  •  WhereRailway Workers Museum
  •  Why Go: Tour railroad cars, sit in the caboose and weather permitting take a ride down county tracks in a restored crew car. 
  •  Price: FREE, donations accepted

Bricks and Boards in the ‘Burg: Downtown Walking Tour

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 10 - 11:15 a.m.
  • Where: Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center - Market Square
  • Why Go: Learn about the history and architecture of Fredericksburg from four different centuries. Tours will highlight the Rappahannock River, the spire and steeples of Princess Anne Street, Town Hall, Market House, and Market Square. 
  • Price: $5, adults; $2, children and students. Museum members free.

Tour: About Downtown - Charles Street and Princess Anne

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 11:30 a.m.
  • Where: Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center - Market Square
  • Why Go: Take a tour through these famous downtown streets and learn about the residences, the architecture, and the people. 
  • Price: $5, adults; $2, children and students. Museum members free.

PAWS for Reading

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Porter Branch); 2 - 3:30 p.m. (England Run Branch)
  • Where: England Run Library and Porter Library 
  • Why Go: Kids in grades K-6 can practice their reading with therapy dogs, trained to be avid listeners. 
  • Price: FREE, sign up required

Playtime (France, 1967)

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 2 p.m.
  • Where: Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center - Mansard Gallery
  • Why Go: A comedic film that follows the adventures of France’s silent clown Jacques Tati in the big city.

Betty’s Story: Storm Clouds Over Kenmore

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 2 - 5 p.m.
  • Where: Historic Kenmore
  • Why Go: Learn about Betty and Fielding Lewis in a theatrical production that takes place between 1781 and 1794. 
  • Price: $20, adults; $10, 17 and under, reservations required

Community Artist Series: Johnny Johnson 

  •  When: Saturday, April 6, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 7, 12 - 5 p.m.
  •  Where: Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center, Catherine W. Jones McKann Center, Mansard Gallery
  •  Why Go: View an exhibit of past and present social issues, from local artist Johnny Johnson. 
  •  Price: $7, adults; $2, students; FREE, children 6 & under 

Child ID Program

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 10 a.m. 
  • Where: Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge
  • Why Go: A Child ID Program produces comprehensive digital fingerprints of your child which can be used by local police in locating and identifying a missing child. All information in the system is put on a CD and given to the parent, and no information remains in the system.
  • Price: FREE

Fredericksburg Spring Arts & Crafts Faire 

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 7, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Where: Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center 
  • Why Go: Shop for special spring occasions, such as Mother’s Day and Graduation. Jewelry, pottery, bath products, specialty foods, knick knacks, home décor, clothing, pet products and more will be onsite. 
  • Price: $6, adults; $4, seniors (60+); FREE, children 12 and under

Colonial Games

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Where: Mary Washington House
  • Why Go: Play games that were popular in the 18th Century. Members of the Rappahannock Colonial Heritage Society will be onsite to teach all how to play.

Relay for Life

  • When: Saturday, April 6, 6 p.m. - 7 a.m.
  • Where: University of Mary Washington
  • Why Go: Support research to cure cancer at this all night event.

Stafford’s Great Blue Herons: From Rookery to River 

  • When: Sunday, April 7, 2 p.m.
  • Where: Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont
  • Why Go: A lecture on the great blue heron - a popular bird in the area. The guest speaker will be Mike Lott, the Crow’s Nest Manager and DCR Northern Region Steward.
