Minutes After Suicide Threat, Plane Crashes at Virginia Airport
Single-engine plane had one person on board.
One person died Monday in a single-engine plane crash at Shannon Airport. The crash occurred shortly after deputies responded to the airfield about a suicide threat phoned into 9-1-1.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the small plane crashed about 6:30 p.m. at the airfield just outside of Fredericksburg. Authorities believe the single-engine plane had one person on board, according to Capt. Jeff Pearce.
The Free Lance-Star is reporting the plane crashed shortly after the 9-1-1 call. Pearce told the paper deputies arrived moments before the plane took off and that it made a few passes, went straight up and straight down. Read more of the Free Lance-Star report.
State police are taking the lead on the incident and Pearce could not confirm the same information about the 9-1-1 call to Patch.
