Pink Ribbons at Mary Washington House Honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month

MWHC sponsored the awareness event in honor of those who have battled breast cancer, including Mary Washington, mother of our first President.

In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), Mary Washington Healthcare's Imaging Center for Women encouraged patients and friends to tie a pink ribbon on the white picket fence outside of the Mary Washington House in Fredericksburg.

George Washington's mother Mary Ball Washington died of breast cancer.

The home at 1200 Charles St. -- now a Washington Heritage Museum -- is where Mrs. Washington spent her last 17 years.  It was a gift from her son, President George Washington.
