By Sharon McLoone

Amtrak service has been temporarily suspended between Washington and Philadelphia due to extensive damage to overhead wires.

Amtrak Acela Express, Northeast Regional and other services are not operating between the two cities, according to a notice posted on the train company's website at 12:25 p.m.

Engineers are working to assess and repair the damage.

Passengers who have paid but choose not to travel due to the service disruption are eligible for a refund or voucher for future travel.
