Olde Towne Butcher Says Lamb is the Easter Choice

Easter has brought an increase in lamb sales and orders for Olde Towne Butcher.

Lee and Linda Russell have many choices available in the meat cases at their Olde Towne Butcher and Market. But with Passover earlier this week and Easter this weekend, lamb sales have increased.

"We have a lot of lamb on order right now, mostly legs, a few racks," Lee told Patch. "Our special orders have picked up quite a bit," he said.

Lee said most people are buying leg of lamb because of the price. "Rack of lamb is more expensive," he said. Leg of lamb was selling for $6.19 a pound, while rack of lamb was selling for $18 a pound. A rack of lamb is the rib section, Lee said.

"Lamb is pretty simple to cook," Lee said. "A little garlic, a little thyme, put it in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes per pound and it's done," he said. "And it's good," he added.

Lee said he often places recipes on top of the meat counter. If you're planning to serve lamb for Easter, you may also want to refer to Saveur's "50 Ways to Cook Lamb."

Olde Towne Butcher and Market is accepting lamb orders up through Friday. "I can get something in a day," Lee said. Customers may also walk-in to see what might be available.

The market is open 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Although usually open 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sundays, Olde Towne Butcher and Market will be closed on Easter Sunday.
