Salt Trucks Mobilizing for Snowy Morning Commute

Virginia Department of Transportation crews to work overnight to treat roads.

Release, VDOT:

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews plan to mobilize just after midnight on Wednesday morning to prepare for the onset of another round of wintry weather.

Based on the current forecast snow will begin just before the morning rush hour. VDOT trucks will be stationed at various locations on Interstate 95, primary and key secondary routes ready to begin applying chemicals, salt, sand and abrasives. Earlier today, these priority routes were pre-treated with a salt brine solution that will prevent ice from bonding to the pavement when the temperatures dip below freezing.

When the snow or freezing rain begins, motorists are encouraged to slow down and drive with caution, especially at bridges, overpasses, ramps and turn lanes as these locations freeze first.
