Second Place on 'Cupcake Wars' is Still Sweet

Sweet Reasons owner Lenny Schafer and head baker Kelsey Gibson were among the cupcake artists who faced off in the Food Network's Nov. 2 episode of "Cupcake Wars."

Lenny and wife Juli opened the local bakery two years ago.

"I've been baking really my entire life," Lenny Schafer said in the casting video. "I blame my mother, who bought me my first Easy Bake Oven when I was six-years-old.  I told her that's when she go me into the restaurant business."

Fredericksburg's own did not win the $10,000 first place prize -- with which they had planned to start a food truck side of their baking business.  But Sweet Reasons, located at 1672 Carl D. Silver Pkwy. in Central Park, has a large following, and the national publicity will only serve to broaden their customer base.  Even second place on national television is sweet.
