For many, it was a sad day in September when three Fredericksburg area Dunkin' Donuts were suddenly closed.

The local franchises were among 10 in Central Virginia that closed last year as franchise owners and corporate executives continued lawsuit negotiations over franchise fees and rent payments.

The Dunkin' Donuts at 2229 Plank Rd. reopened Dec. 27, 2013, under new management.

Now a second is preparing to reopen.  The store at 3544 Plank Rd. was to reopen, Jan. 27, but has been delayed, said Lindsay Harrington, Dunkin' Brands Inc. public relations manager.

"Re-opening events to celebrate and thank the local community will take place at a time to be determined this spring," Harrington said.

The third location at 2601 Salem Church Rd will not re-open, Harrington said.

"Dunkin’ Donuts is committed to the Fredericksburg market, and we look forward to continued development in the coming years," she said.

After this story was published announcing the Jan. 27 opening, the PR person wrote to say: "I wanted to reach out to you immediately to let you know that due to unforeseen circumstances the re-opening of this restaurant has been delayed. I will follow asap with the new opening date, and I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience to both you and your readers."
