Tourist-Powered Group Pedal Cab in Fredericksburg: Ready for a Ride?

New enterprise expected to begin running this spring. Are you game?

A report of a unique mobile tourism business in Fredericksburg last week went national: a group pedal cab powered by tourists.

The new PedalFred will be a 16-seat vehicle powered by 10 Fredericksburg tourists using bike-style pedals. The PedalFred will also have a small motor to tackle uphill climbs and keep the bike going when there aren't riders on board.

Are you ready to ride the PedalFred? What do you think of Fredericksburg tourism? Tell us in the comments!

City Council has approved a one-year franchise and the business should begin running in April, according to the Free-Lance Star.

Pedal cabs are popular in many tourist towns, noted Karen Hedelt, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, in recommending council approval in January.

"The operator has vetted the service through the city’s Technical Review Committee and the franchise has been crafted to help insure safety, maintain the atmosphere of the historic district and provide a fun and enriching experience for pedal cab customers," Hedelt stated.
