Civil War Santa Visits Chatham

Sunday's free holiday program runs from 1 - 4 p.m.

Old Saint Nick will be taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with children at Chatham Manor this weekend.

As a special favor to the National Park Service, the Jolly Old Elf will be dressed in the patriotic clothes he wore when visiting children during the Civil War.

In addition to a visit from Santa Claus, children will learn what Christmas was like in the 1860s, make decorations for the Chatham Christmas Tree, and participate in games and a special holiday scavenger hunt.

Members of the Friends of Chatham will serve punch and cookies in the kitchen building.  The free Dec. 16 program is from 1 to 4 p.m.

Chatham is located at 120 Chatham Lane in Stafford County, directly across the Rappahannock River from Fredericksburg.  To reach the house from the downtown area, take Route 3 (William Street) east across the Rappahannock River, turn left on Chatham Heights Road (Route 212), and left again onto Chatham Lane.  Brown colored National Park Service signs mark the way.
