Community Corner

Picnic in the Park Starts Today

Lunch at Hurkamp gets a riverside makeover.

Lunch at Hurkamp is getting a makeover!  Held Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in May, June and September since 1997, the summer concert series has grown into one of the community’s most popular events. Being renamed “Picnic in the Park” the series will be moved this summer down at the new Riverfront Park with beautiful views of the Rappahannock River.

Each concert serves as a meeting place and opportunity for community groups, friends, families, seniors and business people to gather together and enjoy music, downtown Fredericksburg and each other. Over 3,000 people attended the concert series last year and we expect that this year’s series will be more popular than ever.

The move was made this summer in an effort to promote other city parks and facilities. This year the focus is on fun and the concerts main audience moms with children. New to this year’s series is a moon bounce and art activities. We will also be continuing the fun tradition of Touch-a-Truck this year. Two of our Touch-a-Truck series will feature live animals courtesy of Maranatha Alpaca Farm and White Buffalo Horses.

Organized by the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Dept, sponsors play a huge role in helping the concert series continue each year.  All sponsorship money is used to pay for the event including performers, advertising, and logistics. This year’s sponsors include Event Presenters Cox Communications and 93.3 WFLS along with lunch sponsors Moms of Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg Parent, Fredericksburg Baptist Church Preschool and Children’s Ministry, Comfort Heating and Cooling and Stellar One.

The May and June schedule is as follows:
