Tornado Watch In Effect Until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued watch includes Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Friday for the entire I-95 corridor area of Eastern Maryland and Northern Virginia, including the City of Fredericksburg and surrounding counties including Spotsylvania, Stafford, Orange, King George, Westmoreland.  The complete list of cities and counties covered is at this link.

"Isolated showers are possible this afternoon across areas east of the Blue Ridge ahead of an advancing cold front," the NWS said.  These are expected to be light showers through 6 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to accompany a strong cold front that will move across the area late afternoon and through the evening, the NWS advises.

Locally damaging winds, brief heavy rain and isolated tornadoes are predicted to be the main threats.

"A tornado watch includes the large hail and damaging wind threats, as well as the possibility of multiple tornadoes," according to the NWS
