Tickets for the annual event sell out fast, VRE officials say. Last year more than 7,500 sold.

Tickets for the highly-popular Virginia Railway Express Santa Train go on sale Monday, Nov. 26, at 9 a.m.

This year's Santa Train is on Dec. 8. Trains will depart from the Manassas, Burke Centre, Woodbridge and Leeland Road stations.  The usual departure from Fredericksburg was moved to the Leeland Road Station, due to the Civil War sesquicentennial events in the city that same weekend.

More information, inlcuding train depature times, are available on the VRE website.

Each year the Virginia Railway Express allows children and their parents to ride the commuter train and meet Santa, Mrs. Claus and their helpers—who will all hand out candy canes, coloring books and VRE Operation Lifesaver rail safety information.

The Santa Train boarding stations are also drop off points for unwrapped gifts for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.

VRE staff warn that tickets sell out fast online and in person.

Most trains have a limit of six tickets per purchase. Anyone who tries to make an online purchase for more than six tickets for a train with these limits will have their entire purchase refunded and their tickets re-sold, VRE officials said.
