19 Kids (and One Controversial Virginia Road Trip) and Counting

The Duggar's will be in Fredericksburg October 16 at Calvary Christian Church.

By Greg Hambrick and Susan Larson

The Duggars are diving into Virginia politics this week. Since when did the number of kids you choose to have merit celebrity status?  Since the large family has chronicled its past few years on the TLC reality show "19 Kids and Counting."

The family will be campaigning for Ken Cuccinelli and E.W. Jackson, the Republican candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, in Fredericksburg at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16.  They will be at Calvary Christian Church, 2222 Jefferson Davis Hwy.

A release from the Family Research Council -- a conservative lobbying group working against abortion and gay rights -- touted the large family's big trip. It noted the Duggars are supporting Cuccinelli and Jackson because, "Both of these men are deeply concerned about the issues impacting the family and our broader culture."

"The Duggers? That's a perfect example of what families will look like if Ken Cuccinelli gets in and makes birth control illegal!" wrote Patch reader Lisa Clare. "Who can afford that?"

Reader Jody wrote that the Duggars aren't attacking anyone on this trip. "I love their show and suspect the church will be packed," she wrote. "They are a loving, Godly family who have nothing hateful to say about anyone. Abortion is legal and will remain so as long as Roe v. Wade stands."

"BKA" is still more worried about Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe: "Birth control aside, if Terry McAwful becomes our governor, no one will be able to afford to have kids since the state economy will be in the toilet."
