2014 Masonic Memorial Day March

The public is duly invited to join Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge, who will be hosting their annual Memorial Day march which will commence at the Fredericksburg Masonic Cemetery on Monday, March 26 at 9:00 am at George Street and Charles Street.

At the Masonic Cemetery, the Masons will honor their members from Fredericksburg's historic past and the Master of the Lodge, Worshipful Jeffrey Mitchell, will offer a few words over these Colonial Masons and their families. At 9:15 am, the public procession, led by the Masons, will then march to the Hugh Mercer statue on Washington Street, where at 9:30 am their Guest Speaker, Mr. J. Robert DuBois will offer a Memorial Day oration recognizing those who sacrificed everything for us. Following this, the ceremony will then close off at 9:45 am.

Mr. DuBois is a retired Navy SEAL and is the founder and CEO of SEAL of Peace Consulting and has received much media attention of late due to his expertise.  He is a speaker, teacher, coach and consultant who was considered a “smart power authority” while assisting U.S., British and Iraqi forces in Baghdad.  He is a multilingual Navy SEAL with twenty-five years of professional experience in more than thirty countries as well as a major contributor in security and intelligence circles.

Special thanks to Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg, who will be providing their trolley for this event, from the Masonic Cemetery to the Hugh Mercer statue and back, for those who cannot physically march.  In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place within the Fellowship Hall of the Masonic Lodge at 803 Princess Anne Street (Hanover Street entrance).

The Fredericksburg Masonic Cemetery is the oldest in the Americas with persons of fame and historic renown interred, such as General George Weedon who prevented Cornwallis’ escape from Yorktown and Basil Gordon, the first American millionaire.

George Washington was a lifetime member of Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge, along with Hugh Mercer, Lafayette, Fielding Lewis, James Monroe and other notables and greats of history.  This Masonic Lodge has remained in existence in Fredericksburg since 1752 and has played a vital role in history and is still a contributor to the needs of this community.
